Car rental at Marrakech Airport: the complete guide

You land at Marrakech-Menara airport (RAK) and want to head straight out to explore the city, the Agafay desert or the Atlantic coast? Renting a car on arrival is the simplest and most flexible option. Here is everything you need to know.

Why rent a car in Marrakech?

Marrakech is the perfect base to discover southern Morocco. With a car you set your own schedule and easily reach places poorly served by public transport:

  • the Ourika Valley and the Setti Fatma waterfalls;
  • the Agafay desert, less than an hour from the city;
  • Essaouira and the Atlantic coast;
  • the village of Imlil, at the foot of Mount Toubkal;
  • Ouarzazate, over the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

For a family or a group, a car is also often cheaper than several taxis or organised tours.

How does the airport hand-over work?

At Branded Rental Cars, we meet you at the airport with your car. No desk, no queue:

  1. Book online and give us your flight number.
  2. We follow your flight's arrival time.
  3. Our agent waits for you at the exit with a sign showing your name.
  4. You check the car together, sign the contract and off you go.

Delivery to the airport, your hotel or your riad is free.

Which documents should you bring?

  • a valid driving licence;
  • your passport or ID card;
  • your flight number and the address of your accommodation.

If your licence is not written in Latin characters, check whether you need an international driving permit before you travel.

Deposit, insurance and payment: what to check

Many travellers get bad surprises when returning their car. Before booking, always check:

  • the deposit: with us, there is no deposit blocked on your card;
  • the insurance: Standard protection is included, and you can lower the excess with our Reduced excess or Zero risk options;
  • the mileage: it is unlimited;
  • the payment: you pay on delivery, in cash or by card.

Our tips for a smooth start

  • Book ahead in high season (summer and the end-of-year holidays): automatic and 7-seat cars go fast.
  • Take photos of the car at hand-over.
  • Keep some change for guarded car parks, which are very common in town.
  • Avoid driving into the medina: park outside and continue on foot.
