Ouzoud Waterfalls from Marrakech by car: the complete guide

The Ouzoud Waterfalls are among the most impressive in North Africa: a drop of more than 100 metres surrounded by olive trees and red cliffs. By car from Marrakech it makes a perfect day trip, at your own pace and without a tour group.

How long is the drive?

Ouzoud is about 150 km north-east of Marrakech, in the Azilal province. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours depending on stops. The road is paved all the way; the last kilometres are winding, so take it easy.

Our tip: leave around 8 am to arrive before the tour buses.

What to do there

  • Walk down to the foot of the falls on the marked path (steps, 20–30 minutes).
  • Take a boat ride right under the waterfalls.
  • Watch the Barbary macaques living freely around the site. Don't feed them and keep your bags closed.
  • Have lunch facing the falls at one of the small terrace restaurants.
  • Come back up the other bank for a nice loop with different viewpoints.

Where to park

Several guarded car parks sit at the top of the site, a few minutes' walk from the falls. Keep a few dirhams for the attendant. Local guides will offer their services: they're optional, the path is easy to follow.

When to go

  • Spring (March–May): maximum water flow and green scenery — the best time.
  • Summer: less water but cooler than Marrakech; avoid weekends.
  • Autumn and winter: quiet and pleasant, bring a light jacket.
