Parking in Marrakech: medina, car parks and local tips

Driving in Marrakech is easy, but parking takes a little planning, especially around the medina. Here is how to avoid the stress and enjoy your stay.

The medina isn't built for cars

The souk alleys are narrow and often pedestrian-only, and many riads can't be reached by car. You park outside the walls or near a gate, then finish on foot (or with a porter for your luggage). Tell your riad before you arrive: they will point you to the best access point.

Where to leave the car?

  • Guarded car parks near the main sights (Koutoubia, Jemaa el-Fna square, medina gates): the simplest option for a few hours. The rate is displayed at the entrance.
  • Street parking in Guéliz and Hivernage: easier than the medina, but check for paid zones.
  • Your hotel or riad car park: ask before you book, it makes a real difference.

Parking attendants

On many streets a man in a vest watches over the cars. It is customary to leave him a few dirhams when you leave. Always keep some small change in the car.

Our tips

  • Avoid looking for a space near the medina in the late afternoon: it is the busiest time.
  • Leave nothing visible in the car (bag, camera, phone).
  • Remember where you parked: a photo of a landmark or a pin in your maps app is enough.
  • Pick a small car: easier to handle and park in narrow streets.

Questions about getting to your riad? We deliver the car to the airport, your hotel or your riad: choose your car and we take care of the rest.
