Accident or breakdown in Morocco: what to do and who to call

Nobody likes to think about it, but knowing what to do when something goes wrong helps you stay calm. Here is what to do with a rental car in Morocco.

Emergency numbers to remember

  • 19: the police, in towns and cities;
  • 177: the Royal Gendarmerie, outside built-up areas;
  • 15: civil protection and ambulances.

Also save our assistance number, available 24/7: +212 750 034 174.

If you have an accident

  1. Get to safety, switch on your hazard lights and place the warning triangle if there is one in the car.
  2. If anyone is hurt, call the emergency services first.
  3. Call us: we will guide you through the next steps.
  4. Take photos: the vehicles, number plates, damage and the scene as a whole.
  5. Exchange details with the other driver and fill in a joint accident report if the situation allows.
  6. Don't sign anything you don't understand and let the police or insurer establish responsibility.

If you break down

  • Move away from the road if you can and keep your hazard lights on.
  • Don't try to repair it yourself: call assistance.
  • Give your exact position (shared location, kilometre marker, nearby village).

Keep your papers within reach

The rental contract, your driving licence and an ID document should stay in the glove box. The authorities may ask to see them.

Drive with peace of mind

The right cover takes the stress out of any damage: the Zero risk option removes the excess. You can choose your car and your protection in a few minutes.
